Gay Community and ARTWalk to Dedicate New Sculpture”

Rochester, NY: On Friday, July 15, 2005 from 5-7PM, in celebration of Rochester Gay Pride Week, the Atlantic-Beacon Sculpture Committee (ABSC) and ARTWalk will dedicate a newly

built sculpture, “Three Pride Symbols” by Christine Knoblauch. The sculpture was selected by a jury from numerous artist entries. The theme of the sculpture reflects on gay pride, diversity, harmony, and solidarity among all people in today’s society.

The dedication will take place on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Beacon Street at University Avenue along ARTWalk with a block party atmosphere featuring speakers Mayor Johnson, City council members Bill Pritchard and Tim Mains with a City of Rochester proclamation. Entertainment from the GAGV gay youth group, Rainbow Seniors of WNY and a spectacular dance performance by Thomas Warfield and Co. will be presented. Funding for this grassroots sculpture effort was provided by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community and the Rochester Community at large, and the City of Rochester’s Sector Targeted Funding Initiative (STFI).
