Public Informational Meeting Set for Seven ARTWalk Open Calls!
Rochester, NY – This
year ARTWalk Alive will take place in the
Neighborhood of the Arts on September 19, 2004. All artists interested in
taking part in this annual event may attend a public informational
meeting, set for Saturday, May 22 at noon at Writers and Books, located at
750 University Avenue.
Competitions are open to all residents of the eight-county
Greater
Rochester Area, and twenty (20) performances will take place at differenct
sites along University Avenue as part of the fourth annual ARTWalk
celebration.
All artist categories involve submission on unique styles of
expression,
be it music, dance, spoken word, visual art, etc. All RFPs can be
downloaded from ARTWalk's website, www.rochesterartwalk.org.
The
informational meeting will give an overview of artist categories, and will
provide a question and answer forum with representatives from each RFP
category. The Requests for Proposals (RFPs) include:
T-shirt and Poster Art (New Category!)
Music (Music on the Block)
Dance (Dances on the Avenue)
Spoken Word (Word on the Street)
Visual Arts (Artist at Work)
Atlantic-Beacon Sculpture*
*This meeting will also take place on Saturday, May 22, at
1:30,
immediately following the above meeting. All interested artists are to
attend at the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley (GAGV), 179 Atlantic
Avenue. An additional meeting for the Atlantic-Beacon Sculpture is set
for Wednesday, May 26 from 6pm – 7:30pm at Writers and Books, 740
University Avenue.
Thanks to a grant from Culture Builds Communities through the
Arts &
Cultural Council of Greater Rochester, we will be able to provide a $100
honorarium to each entrant selected. Culture Builds Communities Awards are
designed to support community projects that involve artists and/or
cultural organizations and that result in the creation of a lasting work
of art that celebrates the neighborhood. Culture Builds Communities grants
are awarded by the Arts and Cultural Council for Greater Rochester with
funding through Citibank and the City of Rochester.

ARTWalk is an interactive urban outdoor museum that runs along
University
Avenue in the Neighborhood of the Arts. ARTWalk’s mission is to foster,
create and maintain a distinctive public walkway connecting art
destinations and cultural centers in the neighborhood, in order to provide
an environment that encourages increased exposure to a variety of artistic
experiences and build community. ###
